Summary: "FVL can do no wrong"

I'll fully admit it - this was my first trade when I got back into comics a few years ago. I read a ton of them as a kid, and then got out of it as an adult, but started reading message boards and following along, and decided to chose this one due to all the great reviews. And it's great!

Fred Van Lente is fast becoming my favorite writer. His work (esp. Incredible Herc) is amazing, and he should be up there with Bru and Fraction and Bendis, although I think he's getting momentum to get there (He's writing a new Iron Man series).

This book is great - focusing on the bad guys for once, and MODOK especially. None of the bad guys are real family names, which is great - and Fred gets you inside their heads and let's you know how they tick. Lots of double and triple crosses here, just a really great story. it's pretty much a one and done, with no real implications in the larger MU, but still, a fun little read.

Summary: "Really cool"

Modok is without a doubt the coolest most underused villain in Marvel's stable. In this, he assembles a team of washed up supervillains to steal some all powerful whatsis from a group of aliens to use against AIM, the evil group that originally created him and now wants him dead. Their new leader (his unrequited love), also wants the whatsis, to in turn destroy Modok. Double crosses and hidden schemes abound and unlike most of these books, it actually has a great ending.

Now all we need is a Modok series.
